Jharkhand Trains 1 Lakh Volunteers in CPR—India’s Largest Civil Health Force

In a historic move, Ramgarh district in Jharkhand has trained 1 lakh civilians in CPR and first aid, creating India’s largest emergency response force. Named ‘Aapda Mitra’, these volunteers include students, miners, shopkeepers, and factory workers—each now equipped to save lives in critical moments.

Deputy Commissioner Faiz-Aq Ahmed Mumtaz, who launched the initiative in June, called it “a revolution in public health preparedness.” The program was accelerated after the sudden demise of tribal leader Shibu Soren, with the final milestone expected by August 20.
